Dr. Fauci says vaccine mandates should be put in place for returning students

Dr. Anthony S. Fauci is the chief medical adviser on COVID-19 to the president. Dr. Fauci  has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984 and he has advised seven presidents on HIV/AIDS and other domestic and global health issues. He has been the voice that many Americans have listened to since the onset of the pandemic in regard to following the proper protocols to remain healthy.

In an interview with rolling out, Dr. Fauci gives his educated opinion on how we can keep children safe.


How important is being vaccinated in regard to the safety of our children and our country?

It’s absolutely critical. It is unfortunate that we’re in the middle of a terrible outbreak. This pandemic is historic in its impact, the worst we’ve ever seen in over 100 years. Unfortunately, that is the very bad news. However, the encouraging news is that we’re fortunate enough to have highly effective and safe vaccines. That is the solution. We’ve got to get more people vaccinated. We have over 50% of the population completely vaccinated. There is over 70% of the population having at least one dose, but we have about 80 million people in this country who are eligible to be vaccinated, who are not yet vaccinated. Consequently, we have got to get those people vaccinated. If we do, we will have a dramatic turnaround in the right direction with this outbreak.
