Mowry-Housley praised her parents for making sure they lived as normal a life as possible while being in the spotlight and their mother for giving them a thick skin and preparing them early that they had to work extra harder because they were women and Black.
“I can remember that really hurting us. I can remember crying, not understanding why someone would still do that and not only that, why not be the first person to fight against that. I said I’m going to use this as fuel to continue to keep going and I’m not going to let that individual bring me down,” she said.
