Did the pandemic hurt or encourage your musical development?
As a recording artist, it helped me because it leveled the playing field during the release of my new album. Suddenly the only outlet anyone had to release their music was the internet. Also, due to the uncertainty, many artists delayed the release of their new music. I think this helped in allowing my music to breakthrough. My team convinced me to release in April 2020 as planned, despite my fears, and they were right. The pandemic also caused me to start doing virtual performances for my audience. My online show “Meet Me in My Parlor,” shot live from my sun parlor, had over 1,100 viewers the first show because at the time the internet was the only game in town. During this time, I was able to release my latest project, It’s Time. which reached chart-topping success domestically and internationally.
What advice would you give others about pursuing their dreams regardless of what period they are in their lives?
It’s never too late to pursue your passion. If you are breathing and in your right mind, you can do it. If you are willing to put in the work, have faith, accept help and guidance along the way and don’t stop — you will get there. It’s all about faith in your journey and taking the first step. It’s all about living with no regrets and cherishing each moment God gives as an opportunity to make something special happen — you!
