It was a six-week program and 12 businesses participated in it. How did you find out about it and how did you become involved with it?
When you start a business and you start to put yourself out there, people want to put you in a position to be successful. A lot of my network always sends me many different programs and opportunities and someone within my network sent it to me and was like, “I think this would be a great opportunity for you to learn, and I think it’s a lot of great people.” The founding member, Hajj Flemings, has a lot of networks and a lot of great prestige within the Detroit community. People felt like it’d be a great opportunity for my company to be a part of it.
Not only was it a great opportunity, you won the grand prize. Tell us about that.
I for sure won the grand prize. A part of that was the program [because] we went over pitching and learned how to pitch the business but also, we had been really working on our company for about two years at this point, really digging down. The world worked in a great way, in a sense of our business was really focused on collegiate sports and name, image and likeness. Around that time the law [allowing college athletes to brand themselves] went into effect, so we had a lot of great traction, and obviously, the accelerator kind of prepared us to really take advantage of the [change in] the laws.
