Dr. Erica E. Taylor is the medical director for congregate settings at the Chicago Department of Public Health. Before joining the CDPH, she worked as an obstetrician-gynecologist and associate program director at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Taylor is passionate about advocacy, international health, and eliminating the persistent health care chasm that exists in marginalized communities.


Dr. Taylor gave rolling out tips for women’s health to start the year, and what inspired her public health career.


What three things should women focus on to start the year?

I say number one would be your health. Number two would be to get your financial health in order. And then third, I think self-care is going to be key. Women are the backbone of our community. And many times we often pour from an empty vessel as we take care of everyone else but ourselves. So make it okay to make yourself a priority this year. I think it’s so important that we learn to say no. And that no is a complete sentence. So again, just starting to pour into yourself, which will allow you to therefore pour into others.
