Actor Columbus Short was once seen as the next Black matinee idol to be catapulted to major Hollywood stardom. But legal woes and a reputation for allegedly hitting women have been an impediment to his rise.
In fact, Short’s career is currently in a state of stagnation if not experiencing a downward spiral.
Short was arrested again for alleged domestic violence against his wife, Aida Abramyan-Short, on Wednesday night, Feb. 2, 2022, at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles.
The trained dancer who first rocketed to fame via the Stomp the Yard film opposite Meagan Good recapped the episode this way: He claims he had been drinking, which ignited his smart mouth during an argument. He says his wife punched him in the face first, which then prompted him to snatch away her phone, scratching her hand in the process. When officers arrived and did not view any visible injuries to Short’s face, yet saw the scratch on his wife’s hand, they reluctantly took Short to jail.
Short spent 12 hours in the local lockup before being sprung on $50K bond. He has yet to be formally charged.
This is unfortunately not the first time that Short has been in a domestic violence situation with his current and former wives. In 2018, Short spent 34 days in jail out of a possible year sentence for assaulting Abramyan-Short. In 2014, Short’s ex-wife, Tanee McCall called the cops on him after he allegedly threatened her with a knife.
That same year, Short was put on probation for punching a man at a bar, breaking his nose.
As for the growing reputation as a woman-beater, Short pleaded with his fans on Instagram to not believe that narrative. Flip the page to view what he has to say.
