Brian Flores has been hired by an NFL team.
The former Miami Dolphins head coach, who is suing the NFL for discriminatory practices, has been named the new defensive assistant and linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers’ head coach is Mike Tomlin, a Black coach who hasn’t experienced a losing season for 14 seasons now.
“I am excited about Brian Flores joining our coaching staff given his history of developing and teaching defensive players during his time in the NFL,” Tomlin said, according to a press release. “Brian’s resume speaks for itself, and I look forward to him adding his expertise to help our team.”
The Steelers are also the organization Art Rooney Sr. founded, who the NFL named its diversity coaching candidate rule after.
Flores has over 14 years of NFL coaching experience and led the Dolphins to a 9-8 record in 2021. He was previously in the running for head coaching jobs for the Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints.
