What was probably supposed to be a regular interview on March 15, 2022, turned into a much-needed intervention for Michael Beasley.
Beasley was a guest on “The Pivot Podcast,” with hosts Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor where they discussed life, family and basketball. At one point, Beasley became emotional when discussing his personal life.
“I’ve been trying to find good people for so long,” Beasley said. “I’m tired, bro.”
Beasley went on to discuss that throughout the years, his family, including his mother, used to steal from him. The only people that haven’t stolen from him are his kids.
Beasley also shared that he doesn’t stay in contact with anyone after trying for so many years, and all he does is play basketball, stay in the house, and talk to his kids as much as he can.
Clark, Crowder and Taylor reached out to help Beasley, and let him know that it’s not good to be alone and not talk to anyone. Beasley then talked about how athletes such as him, Allen Iverson, and Dwight Howard would get laughed at when something was going on in their life.
During the interview, Clark says that Black men and women were not made to carry everybody, and at the end of the day, it takes a village.

Beasley’s career probably didn’t go the way that he planned, after being the No. 2 overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. He played for numerous teams, and it feels like he never got the chance to call an NBA team his home.
This interview showed what other athletes may be dealing with in their lives outside of basketball. Mental health and athletes have been a big topic over the past few years, and this shows just important it is to take care of yourself and check on others.
