Nearly 18 months after their podcast breakup, Mal and Joe Budden are still throwing verbal jabs at one another. One of the first public shots thrown in the latest back-and-forth can be perhaps traced to Cyhi the Prince‘s appearance on the “New Rory & Mal.” Cyhi and Budden have had heated exchanges since 2018. After Budden joked about Cyhi riding Kanye “Ye” West‘s coattails on the “Joe Budden Podcast,” a fan tweeted they’d love to see the two in a rap battle.

“Joe [is] my guy, but I will end his rap and podcast career,” Cyhi tweeted in October 2018. “I’m the wrong one to play with, but if he wants to put $500K up, let’s get it.”

In 2019, Budden went on his podcast and said he’d take a two-month break from podcasting to come out of rap retirement and battle Cyhi.

On Cyhi’s appearance on “New Rory & Mal,” the Atlanta rapper likened working with Ye to working with Budden, and how he was proud of the duo for continuing to work after the split.

“[Budden], you already know what it is,” Cyhi said. “Any day you feel you can rap better than me, as you’ve been telling everybody, I put my offer on the table, you’re rich enough to accept it, but you haven’t accepted it.”

Mal then chimed in.

“Yeah, he stole enough,” Mal said. “He stole enough. He got it.”

The stealing Mal is referring to relates to information he revealed when Budden fired Rory from his podcast and Mal left in May 2021. The duo never saw the details of how much money Budden was making from the trio’s deal with Spotify. Rory and Mal didn’t know how much they were supposed to make, and once they asked to see the paperwork, Budden allegedly declined to show them. The off-air tension made its way onto the air as Rory made jokes about fighting Budden before ultimately firing him. Mal left the show as a result.

Budden apparently responded in a now-deleted portion of his podcast.

“Mal, not only did I not steal from you, you have never had anything worth me stealing from you,” Budden said. “No matter how many new beginnings you start and no matter how many of these new people you get around, some of us know you, that would be me. So please spreading these lies … you’ve never pulled your own weight. The first never meant anything to you, it’s never been responsibilities. You never got up and carried your own s—, it’s always been another n—- around to carry you.”

Mal then responded to his response.

“I’m willing to go on your platform, your new show that still has my blood, sweat and tears in it,” Mal said. “I know that’s what pains him. Every time he pays for p—, that’s some of my money … the most money he’s ever made in his life was next to me, that pains him.”
