South Fulton, Ga. police are conducting an ongoing investigation that ties an armed robber to dating apps used primarily by gay men. According to FOX 5 News, the profile user allegedly told his victims to meet him on Old National Highway, and they would willingly meet with no knowledge of the area.
The profile was linked back to Zechariah Warren, 19, who has been connected to six incidents, but police officials believe there could be more. No details have yet been released about what was said to lure victims, but it was reported that they were set up and robbed at gunpoint.
“People are being enticed on these dating sites,” South Fulton Police Lt. Ronnie Wyatt told FOX 5’s Deidra Dukes. “They are being tricked [into] meeting up with people. And once they get there, they are taking money from them and things like that.”
An arrest was made at the Camelot Club Condominiums, an apartment complex where Warren allegedly told victims to meet him and then robbed them. Dating site users are being encouraged by authorities to be aware of who they agree to meet with.
“Because anytime you are meeting someone for the first time you never know who it is until you get there,” said Wyatt. “Once you get there is not the time to say ‘maybe this isn’t a good thing’. You should do all those things before meeting up with that person.”
