On June 25, 2023, the BET Awards celebrated women in music and showcased female hip-hop legends who broke through industry barriers along with some of the newest fem phenoms.

The celebrated awards show first brought Latto to the stage to open with her famous song, “Put It On Da Floor” followed by a performance from Coco Jones, singing the hit song “ICU.” Jones also received the Best New Artist award.


Shortly after, Latto accepted an award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist.

Doechii delivered a grand performance with, “What It Is,” followed by GloRilla switching it up to a sensual vibe, rapping “Lick or Sum.”


The award show took on a new tune when Jamaican reggae and dancehall singer Patra hit the stage with Mad Lion, Kid Capri, Doug E. Fresh, and Lil Vicious.

Ice Spice also hit the stage with a three-song performance featuring the songs “Munch (Feelin’ U),” “Princess Diana,” and “In Ha Mood.”

Kaliii later performed her hit single, “Area Codes,” on the BET Amplified Stage.

The BET Awards took things to the West Coast bringing out female rapper Yo-Yo along with Warren G, YG, and Tyga.

Then East Coast rocked the stage with artists such as Remy Ma, Trina, and MC Lyte. Lola Brooke also performed “Don’t Play With It.”

To help celebrate his Lifetime Achievement Award, Busta Rhymes brought out a few women in hip-hop including Spliff Star, Scar Lip, Bia, Coi Leray, and Spice also known as the “Queen of the Dancehall.”

The evening celebrated the legacy of all things hip-hop, including fashion and culture, while also shining a light on female unity.
