Maimah Karmo credits her mother with saving her life when she instructed her to do self-examinations at age 13, which lead to early detection of her triple-negative breast cancer. Today, Karmo runs the Tigerlily Foundation to fight for equity in research and treatment of breast cancer, which Black women inordinately die from.
