On Sept. 23, adidas Basketball announced the upcoming release of NBA All-Star player Anthony Edwards signature shoe. The shoe, the AE 1, was unveiled at a homecoming celebration in Atlanta.
Edwards made it a special day, showing his love ties to his city and celebrating his journey in basketball and commitment to giving back to the community that raised him.
Family, friends, and the Oakland City community attended the AE 1 Homecoming event later in the evening in which Anthony made a grand entry with a marching band. The event was hosted by Ms. Basketball, as he was celebrated by Fulton County Commissioner Khadijah Abdur-Rahman, state Rep.Park Cannon, Atlanta City Council members Jason Dozier and Matt Westmoreland, and Eric Wise, the global GM of adidas Basketball. The organizers provided a touching tribute to Edwards’ and his accomplishments that included a surprise unveiling of a mural dedicated to this landmark collaboration.
Toward the end of the event, Edwards took center stage, expressing gratitude to his family and friends, and reminiscing about his incredible journey. The performances got underway and started with his brother, bdifferent, and a surprise performance from fellow Oakland City legend, Lil Baby.
The basketball stars showed up as well, which included WNBA players Angel McCoughtry, Erica Wheeler and Te’a Cooper.
