Desus has finally spoken.
The comedian and TV personality brought up DJ Envy‘s real estate partner getting tied up in fraud allegations of a Ponzi-like scheme that cost victims millions. The case around Envy’s partner, Cesar Pina, garnered mass media attention, especially when he was arrested on Oct. 18 and released on a $1 million bond.

While Envy hasn’t been arrested and publicly stated he had no involvement with any of Pina’s alleged illegal actions, Pina used Instagram Live on Oct. 24 to reaffirm Envy was not a victim, but his business partner.

Many fans on social media encouraged Desus Nice and The Kid Mero to reunite to roast Envy for his connection to Pina. In 2018, the duo reacted to Envy’s appearance on “The Real” where he discussed his extramarital affair.
Envy didn’t appreciate the comedians’ jokes, so when Desus and Mero were invited on “The Breakfast Club,” Envy gave the duo nicknames and left the interview early.
Now that Envy’s name is in the news and Desus is this week’s guest host on “The Daily Show,” the perfect storm came about.

“Wow, DJ Envy is in trouble for real estate fraud,” Desus said. “What a serious story. It’s definitely not funny. There’s certainly nothing that makes it personally funny to me.”
Desus then brought up how Envy called him out on the radio for making a joke about his wife and told security Desus was a threat. He then said there’s “no way” Envy could’ve known he was involved in a Ponzi scheme before pulling up an old interview clip where Envy said Joe Budden told him it was a Ponzi scheme years ago.
“That clip is not funny,” Desus said. “We are not laughing about this. We’re also not asking, ‘Who’s a d—head now?’ … whenever I’m doing financial transactions, I also get advice from Joe Budden, Fabolous and DJ Clue. Everybody knows those are the Lehman Brothers of hip-hop.”
