In the highly anticipated film, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, the global superstar offers an intimate and candid glimpse into her life, both on and off the stage. Long known for her resistance to appearing in interviews, Beyoncé finally peels back the curtain, revealing the multifaceted woman behind the media’s sometimes off mystique.

The movie is a rich mosaic of music, fashion and culture, but it also presents Beyoncé as a real woman; a mother, a daughter, a friend, a mentor, a businesswoman and a performer. Each facet of her identity contributes to the complete picture of who she is.
As a businesswoman, Beyoncé is assertive yet respectful, setting high standards for herself and her team. She is warm and supportive towards her dancers and background singers and shares the stage with other past and present music legends.
When that man told Beyoncé it wasn’t possible to get what she wanted and she told him she looked it up and it’s available 😭 #RENAISSANCEFilm pic.twitter.com/IZBuNHIInR

Fashion plays a significant role in the film, with a touching tribute to her late Uncle Johnny. Many fans may not know that he and Beyoncé’s mother hand-sewed the outfits for Destiny’s Child in the early days when designer clothes were out of reach. This nod to her family’s fashion legacy adds a personal touch to the film.
Beyoncé also pays homage to her fan base, the Bey Hive and highlights the importance of community and culture. She performs a medley of her old hits, including “Dangerously in Love,” “Crazy in Love” and “Drunk in Love,” much to the delight of her fans. Of course, she also performed some fan favorites from her latest album Renaissance.
The film also offers a rare glimpse into Beyoncé’s life as a mother. She is shown balancing her demanding career with her commitment to her children, always ensuring they are present even during her hectic touring schedule. She credits her parents for grounding her and helping her realize the vision.
However, the film’s inclusivity sometimes blurs the lines of Beyoncé’s personal beliefs. While it’s commendable to appeal to a diverse audience, there are moments where it’s unclear what Beyoncé herself stands for.
The film is also rich in symbolism, referencing various religious and cultural motifs. From a horse that some interpret as a nod to the Book of Revelation, to a stage set resembling a crystal ball, to imagery evoking the Hindu goddess Durga, the film is a visual feast open to interpretation.
Beyoncé describes her album and tour as a “rebirth,” a fitting synonym for Renaissance. Despite the film’s complex imagery, it’s clear that her loyal fans are the true visuals.

The Renaissance film didn’t inspire me to “go harder” at all. It was the antithesis of that, imo.
