What is it like being the rolling out 2023 Content Creator of the Year?

I’d like to thank my cat. One is sitting in the back, right over there. She does all the content for me and creates everything. A lot of the brain activity that goes into the content comes from her, so I just have to say, that I appreciate everything she’s done for me.

Thank you so much. This is an honor, and I hope I can keep it up and keep you guys impressed.

Where did your comedic timing come from?

My family. My brother and my auntie. My auntie is really funny, she’s like old school funny where if she just looks at you a certain way, you’ll start laughing … my brother was always someone who would roast you. You had to defend yourself, especially in school growing up because everyone would roast or bully you if you had a crazy fit on. Like, you had to learn how to save yourself.

Is roasting a survival strategy for the young Black experience?

It’s so funny because I used to tell people I didn’t I was considered pretty back in the day. And they would be like, “What? Oh no. You weren’t ugly.” I’d be like, “You might not have thought so, but society did at that time.”

How I get treated now versus how I got treated then is completely different … to be in these rooms with the cool people, that’s why I’m funny. That was the only way I was in there. I tell people I’m funny for a reason because that was my attribute back then … I would have no personality if I looked like this back then. I would be like, “Oh, I don’t have to do s— to have friends and date people. I’m great. I can get anywhere in life,” but back then, I had to get my moves on to get in those rooms.

What advice do you have for aspiring social media influencers?

There is a cheat code and I feel like it’s not very healthy, but put out something controversial enough where people are going to talk, but not controversial to the point that’s going to get you canceled … one thing people love to do is give their opinion. If they’re giving their opinion, now you’re getting engagements. That’s how I kind of run my Twitter.
