Kanye West just wanted to support his friend.

On Jan. 29, West was walking to Charlie Wilson‘s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in California. While making his way to the event on the sidewalk, a TMZ reporter who identified herself as “Melanie,” no spelling provided, asked if his wife, Bianca Censori, had free will or if he was controlling her. When she finished asking the question, West snatched the phone from her and put it in his pocket.

“Why do you feel like it’s OK?” West asked Melanie. “I’m a human being. All of this TMZ, 30 miles up, y’all set celebrities up. All this b—–. I don’t give a f— what y’all got to do. What y’all got to say. Don’t come at me with that s—. Don’t think that you can walk up on me like that? Just because you’re a White woman, you can walk up on me like that? And ask me some dumb s— like that? Ask me about my wife, talking about do I think she got some free will? Are you crazy? Are you insane? This is America.”

He also said it wasn’t fair to be asked questions about his wife when the same reporter didn’t ask him about fighting to see his children and custody rights with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian.

As the police approached the two’s conversation, West asked the reporter her first and last names and address. He then asked her how much she made a year.

“What you make a year?” West asked. “I’ll pay you double what they paying you. You want to work for me instead? Ah, now you smiling.”

West then pulled out the reporter’s phone and returned it to her.

“Get her contact,” West instructed another cameraperson.

West ultimately made it to the event in time to support the R&B legend Wilson on his big day.
