T-Pain is an amazing singer, and he has some incredible skills as a songwriter for tracks that aren’t his, particularly in country music. Unfortunately, we’ll probably never know which songs, as T-Pain has removed his name credits from them.
In a recent social media stream, T-Pain discussed his appreciation for various music genres and where he draws inspiration.
“Good music is good music; I don’t care where it comes from or what style it is,” T-Pain declared. “Many people I know feel that it’s not cool to listen to other music genres. Country music is where I draw all of my harmonies from. Country and gospel music, that’s where I derive all of my harmonies.”
T-Pain then explained why he removed his music credits from the country songs he contributed to.
“I’ve written numerous country songs and stopped taking credit for them,” T-Pain revealed. “Because as satisfying as it is to see your name in the credits and all, the racism that follows is like, ‘I’ll just take the check. Don’t put my name on that stuff.'”
In 2023, T-Pain released his rendition of the popular country song “Tennessee Whiskey,” a track most people recognize from Chris Stapleton’s 2015 version.
While it’s unclear whether T-Pain is encountering racism from fans or fellow artists, it must be challenging, especially when you’ve invested significant effort in a song and want recognition for your involvement.
