Atlanta DJ Nelledoesit is one of the hottest up-and-coming DJs in the southeast. In addition to a weekend residency at Aye Tea Elle, a popular College Park, Georgia, tapas lounge, the eclectic audio engineer and emcee has become one of the most in-demand musical hosts, because of her creativity, unique tone on the microphone and passion for all genres of music. Weddings, bridal showers, artist performances and brunches are just a few of her client gigs, but she says her goal is to allow music to take her overseas.
“Music is a gateway to another galaxy. I love transporting my audience to a place where they can just focus on feeling good and letting the music heal their emotions or anxiety,” she says. “My dream is to go overseas to play for audiences around the globe. Music is universal and my ultimate goal is to travel the world playing music for global audiences.”
Aside from her busy schedule, Nelledoesit accepted an offer to serve as a celebrity godparent for the nonprofit group Saving our Daughters founded by Curtis Benjamin and his wife Debbie.
“We have been blessed to have numerous celebrities adopt our girls as celebrity godparents. They love the work we are doing and they show up for our girls. We have worked with T.I., Phylicia Rashad, Grace Byers, Disney and many more. Keke Palmer is one of our biggest advocates and godparents. The girls get so excited seeing all her success but she always makes time to come and inspire them. The girls recently performed for TLC at the Atlanta Falcons 50 years of hip hop celebration and DJ Nelledoesit was our DJ. We asked her to be the official DJ for the organization and if she would share her work with our girls. Not only is Nelledoesit a dope DJ but she has an inspirational story and is passionate about encouraging our young women. She was a great fit to add to our celebrity godparents,” Curtis Benjamin says.
Nelledoesit says she was honored to serve because she remembers being in middle school and struggling with her self-esteem.
“Music was the one thing that inspired me back then. I didn’t know what I wanted to do but I knew music made me feel good. Playing in the band at Fayette Middle School allowed me to learn about performance and gave me confidence. I want the girls in Saving Our Daughters to know they can do anything but it starts with loving themselves,” she says.
The 20 girls who attended the DJ clinic on Monday, Jan. 29 were thankful for Nelledoesit’s visit. They shared their thoughts about what they learned and how the clinic impacted them.
