DJ Gl0bal spoke with rolling out about his career, the benefits of traveling the world, and some of his favorite places to deejay.

Do you remember your first big moment as a DJ?

Things move pretty fast and slow, there are some peaks and valleys in this world. In 2012, an electronic music artist was on tour around North America and I entered this DJ contest. I ended up winning and I basically had to submit a mix that you battle it out with about 10 other DJs in Canada. I was battling out with them and I won the contest, and I was able to direct the show. The show was actually for 6,000 people, so that was my first moment where I said, “This is lit.” I’m playing a show for 6,000 people in Canada, and still learning how to DJ. That was my moment when I sat there on that massive stage like, “Yo, I want to do this full time.” Ever since then, I’ve been chasing that high for years.

What are the benefits of being a traveling DJ?

Honestly, the culture. If your city is a hotbed like London, where they have thousands of different cultures there and you kind of get a little experience with the different music tastes, then it’s cool. But traveling to different cultures, different cities, different states, you’d be surprised what you think is hot here is not hot over there. It makes you a better DJ, in my opinion, and you get a better love for music. That’s why you see on my TikTok that my music taste is all over the place. That’s because I’ve traveled and I just like everything and I think with traveling, you get a sense for different culture[s] and you get to teach people stuff that maybe they don’t know and it will make you a better DJ. They go back home and they’re like, “OK, they played that track. I didn’t hear that track in a minute.” You get to stand out a little bit more.

What are the three songs that need to be in every new DJ’s setlist?

Three songs that will never fail? I’m going to make it easy for you. DMX’s “Party Up.” I don’t know any club that doesn’t like that. “Drop” with Timbaland and Fatman Scoop. And Lil John’s “Get Low.” Those three, I don’t care what party you’re at, if all [else] fails, you play any of those three and they’re super old, the club is going to rock.

Where’s your favorite place to DJ?

That’s a tough one, but I’d say Miami.

Where is one place that you haven’t deejayed that you want to go to?

It’s got to be Ibiza. That’s the hotbed for everything. That’s on the list for sure. I’m gonna make that happen. If you like house music, that’s it right there. It’s just a vibe down there.
