Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the 2024 Genesis Invitational. Woods decided on Feb. 16, the day of the second round in his return to the PGA Tour. Illness was the reason for his withdrawal, according to PGA Tour communications. The tournament was Woods’ first PGA Tour start since the 2023 Masters.

Woods also withdrew from that tournament and had ankle surgery after leaving the major championship. He returned to the golf course at the Hero World Challenge in December, where he placed No. 18 in a 20-player field. He teamed up with his son Charlie two weeks later at the PNC Championship.

After the PNC Championship, Woods said he planned only to play approximately one tour a month this season. Woods has played nine official events in the last four seasons. According to the PGA Tour, he missed the cut twice and withdrew three times in those events.

In the Genesis Invitational’s first round on Feb. 15, Woods said he dealt with back spasms. During the third round, an official carted Woods back to the locker room. The exact illness is not known.

Woods’ appearance at The Genesis Invitational was also his first PGA TOUR start since he announced he left Nike on Jan. 8. His new brand is Sun Day Red, which is an apparel brand the billionaire owns himself. Throughout his career, Woods has famously worn red on Sundays.
