Where do you thrive the best as a DJ?

I’m going to say my best and then I’ll give you the people’s choice. My best I would say is on the radio, just because I take my time and I make it for the masses, but I would say the people’s choice would be the Atlanta Dream games, or a nice corporate event because I get surprised at people that come up to me and they say, “Oh, my God, that sounds so good together” or “What is that song?” or “I love that song.” That’s when it would surprise me, but my personal best would be radio because I take my time and try to get creative and get to the people.

What makes deejaying special in Atlanta?

I think the culture and just being in Atlanta. If you’ve been in Atlanta for the past five to 10 years, and you’ve been actively deejaying, then you see how we are the culture, especially when it comes to the music and just how quick music is coming out now, and the fact that we’re still able to know that this is new stuff, but we have to stick to our classics. Atlanta is going to rock with Atlanta artists, Atlanta music, and Atlanta DJs. One of my homegirls moved from LA and she was like, “If I hear that Rich Kidz “Wassup” song one more time…” and she said she only hears it in Atlanta. I was like, “I’m glad you said that.” But that’s the culture — playing artists like Rich Kidz and Travis Porter, and showing love amongst all of the new stuff that’s coming up. There’s no city like Atlanta, Georgia.

What are tips that you would give aspiring deejays?

Advice would be to do your research on deejaying; don’t just come in and think it’s all sweet. Do research, get in your bag, and become a fan of deejaying. Be a nerd and nerd out on it. Turntables are rare nowadays, but if you can get yourself a pair of turntables, please get them because when you learn how to DJ on turntables, you can learn how to DJ on anything. Research is the number one thing, and have fun with it. Also, know that it’s a selfless job; it’s not always about you; however, you can add a little bit of your flavor to it, but don’t make it the main ingredient.
