Swin Cash Canal has made NBA history.
The New Orleans Pelicans promoted Cash Canal to senior vice president of basketball operations, which makes her one of the highest-ranking women in an NBA front office. Jeanie Buss leads the list of powerful women in the league as the president and owner of the Los Angeles Lakers. Jami Gertz, the actor and wife to billionaire Tony Ressler, is also a part owner of the Atlanta Hawks.
The only other Black women in high positions of power within NBA franchises are Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall and Atlanta Hawks CMO Melissa Proctor. While Cash Canal hasn’t publicly acknowledged the promotion on social media as of the morning of June 26, she has been open about the joys of working within the organization she’s been with as an executive since 2019.
