Gabrielle Union, a celebrated actress and devoted mother, continues to inspire her 6-year-old daughter, Kaavia James Wade, by showcasing what it means to be a girl’s girl. Recently, however, fans have speculated about her well-being following a playful video she shared on Instagram.

Celebrating Team USA with humor

On July 25, Union posted a lighthearted video to celebrate the 2024 USA Olympic Women’s Gymnastics team, performing a cartwheel in a Team USA Polo jacket. Her caption humorously referenced her gymnastics skills, stating, “Tried to defy gravity and landed right back on the ground!” Fans joined in the fun, reminiscing about her high school days as a varsity pom-pom girl.

Fans express concern over hair

While many enjoyed her antics, some fans expressed concern over her hair, with comments questioning if she was going bald or if something was wrong. Union has previously faced scrutiny regarding her hair, especially after revealing her struggles with perimenopause, which has led to hair loss and other symptoms. She candidly shared the emotional toll that starting perimenopause at 37 has taken. This vulnerability resonates deeply within the Black community, where hair often symbolizes identity and pride.

Empowering conversations on hair and identity

Union’s experiences highlight the importance of conversations surrounding hair and identity, particularly for Black women.  Union’s journey encourages others to celebrate their hair and identity, regardless of societal pressures.

Gabrielle Union’s recent video and the ensuing discussions remind us of the complexities of personal identity, health and public perception. As she navigates her journey, Union continues to inspire many with her authenticity and resilience.
