Naomie Harris has “absolutely no idea” what’s next for the James Bond franchise.
The actor starred opposite Daniel Craig as Eve Moneypenny from 2012’s Skyfall to No Time To Die in 2021. She now revealed she’s been left in the dark as to where producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are planning to take the series in the future as they prepare to welcome a new performer to play the iconic spy.
“I don’t know what’s gonna happen for the next,” Harris confessed during an appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show.” “I don’t know where they’re going, what direction. I have absolutely no idea — and I’m so glad that I don’t have any idea. Otherwise, I’d slip up, so nobody tells me anything.”
The Pirates of the Caribbean star reflected on her time as Moneypenny and admitted she “will really miss” the familiarity that came with the part.
“I will really miss it because as an actress, or an actor, and in this profession,” Harris said. “You’re just kind of like a gypsy going around on your own constantly.
“And for the first time, I had a sense of continuity going back to the same place to work with at Pinewood Studios, to work with the same team, and it’s a beautiful feeling to have that,” the Moonlight actor continued. “So yeah, [I] feel a bit lost without it, to be honest.”
While Harris misses appearing in the James Bond series, Craig had previously said he felt like he needed to “move on” from the franchise after bowing out as 007 in No Time To Die.
“I don’t want to go back,” he told The Los Angeles Times. “I suppose I should be lucky if they were to ask me back, but the fact is I need to move on from it. The sacrifice that he makes in the movie was for love, and there’s no greater sacrifice. So it seemed like a good thing to end on.”
There have been very few updates about the franchise since the 2021 picture, aside from Broccoli revealing last October that the new 007 had not been cast yet.
“Daniel gave us the ability to mine the emotional life of the character … and also the world was ready for it,” Broccoli said.
“I think these movies reflect the time they are in, and there’s a big, big road ahead reinventing it for the next chapter — and we haven’t even begun with that,” the producer continued.
