On Dec. 12, Bronny James made his G-League road debut for the South Bay Lakers, after the organization claimed earlier in the year that Bronny would only play in the home games. This statement infuriated the sports world because it made the son of LeBron look like he was too good for the G-League or that he was “above it” — which he clearly isn’t. Thankfully, it looks like the Lakers organization wised up and switched course, committing Bronny to a complete G-League schedule. Apparently, it looked like all James needed was some time away from home because he went off.
James had the best performance of his early professional career, scoring 30 points, pulling down three rebounds, and dishing out two assists. The Lakers lost to the Valley Suns 106-100 despite James’ outstanding performance. James got started quickly, showcasing his outside shooting ability with two pull-up 3-pointers in the first few minutes. He showed his improved game, including some offensive skills we weren’t sure he had. The highlight of the game was a Bronny alley-oop, which had the entire team hyped. He is currently averaging 14 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in the G-League, a big step up from his averages in the NBA.
It seems like Bronny is finally starting to find his footing in the G-League after a rough start. The 30-point effort yesterday follows a solid showing in the game before, giving him two good games in a row. In the previous game, James finished with 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. In his first G-League game, he was pretty disappointing with his entire family and Anthony Davis watching in attendance. He shot 2-for-9 from the field for a total of six points, including 0-for-4 on 3-pointers. He did chip in three rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
As Bronny was having the game of his life, social media blew up with giving Bronny his flowers. In all the hype and ruckus, one person was noticeably quiet: his biggest supporter and father, LeBron James. LeBron James never misses an opportunity to big up his son, and this goes back to when Bronny was still in high school. One of the more outrageous statements LeBron ever made was back in 2022 when he claimed that Bronny could play for the Lakers right now — at the time Bronny was a senior in high school. So why didn’t LeBron send out a tweet or Instagram post?
Well, a few weeks back, LeBron did announce he is taking a hiatus from social media, so it looks like he’s sticking to his guns. LeBron left social media because there were a lot of pictures and memes coming out about him and Diddy being cool — which of course is a terrible look. As the narrative started to spin more and more out of control — with people making assumptions that LeBron was at the Diddy parties, too — LeBron decided to nip it all in the bud and leave social media completely. LeBron announced to the world that he was leaving socials; so, to come back three weeks later just to give your son some praise would have probably drawn more ire than respect. Instead, LeBron probably chose to congratulate his son through text or call. But best believe it killed LeBron not to be able to drown Bronny in praises for the world to see and react, too.
