Angel Reese, as recognized by Ex-NBA player Jeff Teague, is unquestionably one of the most recognizable female basketball players in the world, and she has seamlessly entrenched herself within the hip-hop culture.
The “Bayou Barbie,” who plays for the WNBA’s Chicago Sky, has been photographed at parties with Cardi and even danced provocatively onstage at one of Megan Thee Stallion’s concerts. But that enhanced fame has opened her up to relentless scrutiny and vile misogyny from others, even some prominent Black men.
Jeff Teague’s podcast accused of blatant sexism
On the “Club 520” podcast, created by former Atlanta Hawks point guard Jeff Teague, several guests including Charleston White proceeded to vomit up multiple vulgar statements and misogynistic sentiments aimed at Reese.
Without detailing the vulgar specificities of what he said, White suggested that Reese sells her body on the road to make money and that she should start an OnlyFans account. He added that the only way she could make her and the women’s game attractive is if she dunked the ball topless or wear skimpy shorts — as was first suggested by Shaquille O’Neal.
Teague said little to object to White’s vile and indecorous remarks about Reese.
WNBA star flames Jeff Teague and his co-hosts
Sydney Colson, a two-time champion with the Las Vegas Aces, called out Teague and his co-hosts for still putting out the episode that included the insulting comments from White.
“Having an ignorant a– sexist on and then actually dropping the episode and then wanting to collab with the W is craaazy work lmao,” wrote Colson on X.
“Cook those frauds for me, Syd,” added one fan. Others joined in trashing the podcast.
Teague also drew the ire of fans for saying the current queen of the WNBA, A’ja Wilson, cannot even beat a high school male basketball player.
Fans fire away at Jeff Teague and his podcast guests
Fans continued to go in on Teague, White and others.
“To hear black men degrade this young woman for NO REASON is hurtful. She’s done nothing to No One for this type of hate,” one person said on YouTube’s comments section.
Another added. “What can you say about a group of men, who sit around and bash a young female that’s handling her business the right way?”
“If Reese is trash then why even mention her at all lol like if she literally holds NO relevancy why are they constantly mentioning her!!! Seems like obsession to me!” a third commenter said.
A fourth person stated, “It’s not funny, it’s disgusting. For a few ppl in these comments to put laughing emojis shows what type of person you are. The hate for Angel is disgusting and not warranted. To put down a black woman like this black man is outright DISGUSTING!! The hate for a black woman from a black man shows how this man or any other man is.”
Teague also ruffled feathers when he declared that USC sophomore sensation Juju Watkins is better than UConn superstar Paige Bueckers after the former’s team defeated the latter in their head-to-head matchup in early December 2024.
