The New York Giants can’t do anything right, including lose

If the Giants choose to fire everybody, I would not be mad

The New York Giants are a pitiful franchise. They were literally two weeks away from saving their franchise. The mistake they made five years ago by drafting Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, was finally about to be corrected. All they needed was to keep doing, exactly what they been doing, losing. Yet somehow with their season already over and the Giants having absolutely no reason to win the game, they play their best game of the season. This was coaching malpractice. This was organizational malpractice. This should be a fireable offense.

The Giants defeated the Indianapolis Colts 45-33 on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, dropping them out of the running for the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. The Giants were led by quarterback Drew Lock who scored five touchdowns including four passing and one rushing. Nabers, the sixth overall choice in this year’s draft, caught seven passes on Sunday for a career-high 171 yards and two big scores. This win stopped the Giants from becoming the first team to go 0-9 at home in a season and ended a 10-game losing streak that set a franchise record.

I’m sure players on the Giants were absolutely tired of losing and the ridicule they were receiving from it. At the last few home games, planes have been flying above the stadium taunting the team, including one statement that implored the owners to sell the team. Was this one win truly worth it? According to ESPN Analytics, the Giants had a 57% chance of selecting first overall in the draft going into Sunday. With a loss, it would have skyrocketed to 86%. Rather, it fell to 5%. At more than 78%, now the Patriots are currently the overwhelming favorites to receive the first pick. The Patriots now are in the top spot, the Titans sit at No. 2 and the Browns are at No. 3, and the Giants fall after at No. 4.

Why this is so detrimental is what the New York Giants needed most is a QB and most likely the top two options at QB will be gone by the time the fourth pick comes around. Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward are both expected to be the first two QBs off the board in April after both of them had monster seasons. Ward had 3,494 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in the 2024 season for the Miami Hurricanes and was a Heisman finalist. Sanders threw for 4,134 yards to go along with 37 touchdowns to only 10 interceptions. Both of these options would have been a major upgrade over Daniel Jones, and now there is a high possibility the Giant won’t end up with either of them.

The Giants are a moribund franchise who can’t do anything right, including win. The Giants’ fanbase have been crying all season at their performance, but finally they came to grips with a calming reality. We are so bad that we will get the number one pick. That brought peace the fans knowing that in two weeks the season would be over, and Shedeur Sanders would be theirs. Heck, even Shedeur thought he was a Giant, as he rocked Giant themed cleats in his final college game. Not even 24 hours later, the Giants choose for this pointless game to be the game they finally try hard and compete. Drew Lock, who is the third string QB, chose this pointless game to turn into Lamar Jackson. And yes, they finally got the win, including their first win at home this season. But that win just made this season as pointless as ever and will probably make next season pointless too.
