Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong was arrested after allegedly striking his girlfriend with a gun during an argument on Valentine’s Day weekend.
Darrell Armstrong’s girlfriend suspected he was cheating
The arrest happened just shortly before 4 a.m. on Saturday when, according to the Dallas Morning News, Armstrong’s unidentified girlfriend was rifling through his phone and allegedly found incriminating evidence of an affair.
Armstrong, reportedly inebriated, demanded that she give up the house key, which she obliged.

Armstrong was reportedly intoxicated when he allegedly pistol-whipped girlfriend
At some point, Armstrong, 56, entered the kitchen and allegedly struck the woman in the face with the gun and threatened to shoot her as he then loaded the pistol.
The woman reported fled from the home and got the attention of neighbors and then called the police and her family. When officers arrived on the scene, they noticed a bruise on her face and then went across the street to arrest Armstrong.
Armstrong was taken into custody without incident. The handgun was found inside the home.
The woman was treated by first responders and released. Armstrong posted the $35,000 bond and released.
Armstrong had a notable NBA career
“The Dallas Mavericks are aware of an incident involving a member of our staff and are gathering all relevant information surrounding the incident,” the team said in a statement Sunday obtained by ESPN. “We take this matter seriously. The employee has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings. … We will refrain from further comment while proceedings are ongoing.”
The NBA has not commented. They will launch their own probe to administer punishment, if necessary, after the case has been adjudicated.
Armstrong is remembered by old-school fans as a player who starred with the Mavericks in the 1990s. Most notably, at the close of the century, Armstrong won both the Sixth Man of the Year and Most Improved Player awards.
