Singer Lizzo continues to amaze her fans with her consistent and dramatic weight loss over the past year.
But the Detroit-bred songstress created debate after she used profanity to bid adieu to her former self.
Fans debate how Lizzo said ‘bye’ to her old self
The 36-year-old created a video for her 12 million Instagram followers on Valentine’s Day weekend, perhaps in a symbolic and cathartic way of loving on herself.
The “Truth Hurts” singer took to a cardboard image of herself and spray painted “Goodbye, B—h” on the photo.
Afterward, Lizzo unfurled a cartoonish laugh as the video panned upward towards the sky.
Lizzo captioned the video post with “The end of an era.”
The platinum-selling singer has used her struggles with her weight to create a reality show “Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls” and design her shapewear brand Yitty.
Some fans pine for the old Lizzo, at least the version that produced hit albums and Grammy-winning songs.
“Makes me feel kinda sad. That version of Lizzo definitely brought me so much joy and inspiration. Look forward to seeing what you have coming,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “The old you is what motivated women to love themselves.”
Others stood in full support of her journey, with one reply reading, “Look at you!! Stand tall and STRUT that health and beautiful pride. Your SOUL looks lighter, too.”
Fans are conflicted about the new Lizzo and what that means
Some supporters informed Lizzo in the comments section of the IG post that they fell in love with the fun-loving artist before she became callous.
“That album was teaaaaa got me through my breakup,” one fan said, while a second said, “But I like that era.”
A third fan opined that “She looks great.. and she did before too,” while a fourth said the spray-painted photo “Would make a good album cover.”
“We love a new beginning,” added a fifth supporter.
