Joy Reid and ‘The ReidOut’ get the sudden ax

Reid, 56, and her show were axed without prior notification on Sunday morning, Feb. 23. In her place, according to Fox News, “The ReidOut” will be replaced by “The Weekend,” which be hosted by Symone Sanders-Townsend, a former spokesperson to Vice President Kamala Harris, Alicia Menendez, and former RNC Chair-turned-MSNBC host Michael Steele.

“The ReidOut” show was reportedly losing momentum and viewers as Reid experienced a reported 28-percent decline from 2024, when she enjoyed 1.3 million sets of eyes on her show. It was down to an average of 973,000 so far in 2025.

‘The ReidOut’ elimination is part of MSNBC’s network shakeup

The publication reports that MSNBC also enumerated a plethora of other changes, additions and cancellations as part of a major network shakeup.

  • Jen Psaki, is going to be granted more air time with her “Inside with Jen Psaki”.
  • Alex Wagner, will not have her 9 p.m. show any longer, but will be reassigned as the network’s correspondent.
  • MSNBC is reportedly looking to hire a head of talent, a head of news gathering, a Washington bureau chief, and a head of content strategy. They will also add more domestic and international correspondents.

‘The ReidOut’ will air its final show this week

Reid is renowned nationally for her pro-Democratic and fiery anti-MAGA rhetoric. She was also known to spew inflammatory statements at regular intervals, including the time she likened President Trump’s immigration policy to Nazi Germany.

The Guardian reports that MSNBC’s new president, Rebecca Kutler, will announce more changes in the near future.
