Dwyane Wade, one of the greatest shooting guards in NBA history, defended one of the greatest overall players ever when he sided with LeBron James in his feud with Stephen A. Smith.

King James went viral when he pulled up on the “First Take” host during the Lakers game against the New York Knicks on March 6.

Lip-readers told the media that it appeared that James issued a strong warning to Smith to leave his son, LeBron “Bronny” James Jr., out of their personal beef.

D-Wade was in New York when paparazzi popped off a series of questions about his personal life and his longtime friendship with King James.

The Miami Heat legend said that he spoke to Smith on the phone about the confrontation with LBJ. He also said he was blunt with the ESPN personality.

“I am friends with both,” he told TMZ as he signed autographs and took selfies with fans. “I spoke to him on the phone. I told him that I would have walked up on him the same way.”

King James has been getting cooked ever since the Lakers took Bronny James with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The son has had trouble establishing himself on the NBA level, averaging 1.4 points per game on 25-percent shooting in 17 appearances. His 3-point shooting is even worse at just 23.1 percent. Bronny has had greater success in the NBA G-League where the scrutiny and spotlight is minuscule in comparison.

Dwyane Wade is mystified by all the hate directed at Bronny James

Wade had taken umbrage with the media’s propensity to trash Bronny James relentlessly, asking, Why is the narrative always so negative when it comes to this young man?” he said on his podcast, “The Why With Dwyane Wade.”

“Every show has a segment about Bronny James. Y’all don’t cover guys [in the NBA] the way that y’all talk about Bronny James.”

D-Wade continued, saying, “Give him a little bit more grace and appreciate what he’s been able to build for himself. And stop tearing him down because ‘I don’t like the fact that LeBron James had the power.’ Who wouldn’t want that?” Wade asked.

Wade bluntly said if he wielded the same power that Bron does, his son Zaire Wade would be in the NBA as well.

“I don’t have that power. My son would be in the NBA too … developing.”
