
Lisa Young Alston, daughter of former Atlanta Mayor and U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, her family announced. She was 67.
In a statement to the press, the Young and Alston families expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received:
“The Young and Alston families deeply appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love and support from across the community as we process the loss of our beloved Lisa. We ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
Alston was one of four children born to Ambassador Young and his late wife, Jean.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens shared his condolences on social media, writing:
“It is with great sadness that I learn of the passing of Lisa Young Alston, daughter of Ambassador Andrew Young. My heartfelt condolences go out to Ambassador Young and the entire Young family during this incredibly difficult time. Lisa will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and the kindness she extended to everyone she encountered. As we honor her memory, let us come together to offer support, compassion, and prayers to the Young family.”
Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, President and CEO of Morehouse School of Medicine, also paid tribute:
“Today, we gather with heavy hearts as we mourn the passing of Lisa Young Alston, a remarkable individual and the beloved daughter of Ambassador Andrew Young. Her life was a testament to compassion, strength, and dedication to her community. On behalf of our institution, I extend our deepest condolences to Ambassador Young and his family. May they find comfort in the love and support of those around them, and may her legacy continue to inspire us all.”

Alston is survived by her husband, Doug Alston; their children, Lena and Kemet Alston, owner of Kemet Alston Photography; her siblings, Andrea Young, Paula Shelton, and Andrew “Bo” Young; and a host of family and friends who will cherish her memory.
At this time, the cause of her passing has not been disclosed.
