Drew Sidora‘s new album I Did It To Me, is out on all platforms now. On this album, Drew takes us into and through her own personal healing journey. The album is filled with great songs that really show her range; She has slow ballads like “I Did It To Me” and “Love 4 A Min.” She has club bangers like “Good Girl, Bad Bitch” and she even has pop vibes on here like my favorite song, “Delulu.” The single Ms. Sidora stepped into the Star Studio to talk her new album and why he is more single than ever.
Why did you choose to name the album I Did It To Me?
Oh my gosh, that was super important. Like, the song I did it to me, which is the single, you know, the lead single of the album, The title track. It was really important, when I put this album together, to really tell my story. Everybody knows my story. Knows what I’ve been going through personally, and I just felt like it was the best way to describe the culmination of work, like at the end of the day, when you go through heartbreak, it’s important for you to look in the mirror, for you to grow, for you to heal, for you to take ownership and accountability for your part. Because it’s so easy to, like, blame the other person, right? You preach in the choir, but when you do that, it’s like you stunt your own growth. You know you’re you become stagnant, and so you’re going to repeat the vicious cycle of insanity.
What situation drove you insane?
Oh my God, it’s so crazy, because it’s kind of like people were on that journey with me, right? So it’s like, y’all saw like, my husband goes away to Tampa for days, and I didn’t know where he was. That’s insanity. Like, I mean, who does that? And we have three children, and I had just had surgery for my ruptured Achilles. It was like COVID time my mom is in the house. Like, who does that? And that pretty much that was like the beginning of the spiral of our relationship.
‘Chicago Slide’ is the upbeat pop song, why you encouraging the girls to act out this summer?
But it’s fun, right? Like, it’s fun, like, it’s huh? I was a good girl. I was a wife for 10 years, you know? And in finding love again, being open, you gotta get outside. Like it’s not gonna come inside the house. You gotta go outside literally. So, yeah it’s just for my girls that want to turn up and have fun. Because these are all the different sides of me. These are all my emotions that I felt during this time. When you listen to my album, you’re like, Okay, she was going through a journey. That is what this is.
What do you hope listeners take away from this album?
Like I’m here. I sit before you. I am such in a better place, healed, happy, whole. So that’s what I hope anyone listening to the project I want, I hope that they’ll just go through that same journey of healing. They’re gonna cry, they’re gonna dance, they gonna laugh. They gonna, you know, reflect. That’s what I hope that that this album, you know, provokes them to do.
