Patricia Andrews-Keenan, The Tallulah Group
In 2008, as Chicago was welcoming its new president, Patricia Andrews-Keenan was launching her full service media/public relations firm, The Tallulah Group.
“I’ve spent my career in large companies AT&T, the IRS, Comcast and Nielsen. It occurred to me that one day I’d have to make a transition from the corporate grind if I was going to continue to do what I love,” said Andrews-Keenan.
During the Congressional Black Caucus conference last week, Keenan’s firm held a corporate brunch at the Willard Hotel in D.C. with CNN contributor Roland Martin.
“It had all the elements of a great event. Interesting people — many of them political — great venue, great food and an interesting speaker. There were more than 100 people and you could hear a pin drop while Roland Martin was speaking. A venerable hotel like the Willard makes a great backdrop but we jazzed it up a bit with some interesting centerpieces and had great gifts for all of the attendees,” she said.
One of Keenan’s favorite events was for an old-time popcorn machine manufacturer, where guests dressed up like Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe. “My company focused on media but we also did key elements of the event like the invitations, programs and staging which were amazing. It was great to tie in that feeling of the late 1800s and make them new for this event,” said Andrews-Keenan.
