Gun violence continues to put a damper on the July Fourth weekend in Chicago. According to reports by Chicago Tribune, 30 people were shot and three people were killed due to gun violence within a span of eight hours in Chicago.
One of the victims was a 7-year-old Amari Brown who was shot in the chest and killed after returning from a celebration at Humboldt Park. Shortly before midnight, someone opened fire on North Harding Street and fatally wounded Brown and a 26-year-old woman.
The shooting added to a rapid span of violence that started at 9:20 p.m. and ended at 4:45 a.m. Around 10 p.m., a 16-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl were shot after a group of teens began fighting near the Navy Pier moments after the fireworks display.
