A Black man was found lynched in Mississippi. On March 19, Otis Byrd, 54, was found hanging from a tree in Port Gibson, Mississippi. His body was too decomposed for police to ID him.
According to WJTV, Byrd was dropped off at Vicksburg’s Riverwalk Casino on March 9 and never returned home. His family reported him missing and an extensive search was conducted.
The FBI and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are investigating the incident and the NAACP is asking the Justice Department to get involved.
One year ago, Lennon Lacy, 17, was found hanged in North Carolina. His case was ruled a suicide, but Lacy’s family believe he was lynched.
Since 1882, more than 4,000 Black people have been lynched in America.
