Shellie Zimmerman takes perjury plea deal
The wife of acquitted murderer , George Zimmerman pleaded guilty Wednesday to perjury. Shellie Zimmerman stood before Judge Marlene Alva today and pled guilty to perjury under a plea deal. The deal allowed Zimmerman to avoid a felony charge and instead take a misdemeanor.
She was given 100 hours of community service and one year probation for lying. She will also have to write an apology letter to the judge she lied to.
In June of 2012 prosecutors presented evidence that Shellie lied in connection to her husband’s case and helped him downplay money he was receiving from a supporter funded Paypal account. Prosecutors believe George and Shellie attempted to hide more than $135,000 from the court and often talked in code during telephone conversations. Additionally it was believed George had a secret passport. He was not present in court today for his wife’s hearing.
George made headlines this week when it was revealed that he wanted the state of Florida to pay between $200,000-$300,000 of his legal fees.
