Video footage of a black man being shot by police contradicts officer’s initial report. According to The Raw Report, John Crawford, 22, was shot in the back while leaning on a BB gun and talking on a cellphone at a Wal-Mart in Beavercreek, Ohio.
Ohio’s attorney general allowed Crawford’s family attorney to view the surveillance video from the store. Initially, police said Crawford was waving the gun around and would not put it down when they opened fire.
However, the videotape proves that Crawford was casually standing with the toy gun and using it as a makeshift cane while talking to his girlfriend on the phone.
Crawford was racially profiled by a white couple who followed him in the store. Instead of notifying store managers, who could have verified that the gun was a toy, the nosy couple called police.
The police also racially profiled Crawford by shooting him first without asking questions.
One cop who was involved in the shooting, David Darkow, has resumed his duties and has yet to be reprimanded. The other officer, Sean Williams, is on administrative leave.
A grand jury will hear the case on Sept 22. Crawford’s family has asked the U.S. Department of Justice to open a civil rights investigation.
