Mayor Reed responds to Price Middle School shooting
The Mayor of Atlanta has issued a statement on the shooting that took place this afternoon at Price Middle School. As previously reported an unknown gunman took to the Lakewood Heights school and opened fire. A student, 14, was shot reportedly in the neck and taken to Grady Memorial hospital. A teacher was also injured but received non-life threatening injuries.
And while Atlanta area residents continue to express outrage over the incident, especially in light of the tragedy that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School, an Atlanta city leader is issuing a statement.
Atlanta’s Mayor Kasim Reed, 43, released a message to the press expressing his concern over the situation. Additionally Mayor Reed has promised to provide counseling for the students and faculty affected.
“Gun violence in and around our schools is simply unconscionable and must end,” said Reed via statement. “Too many young people are being harmed, and too many families are suffering from unimaginable and unnecessary grief. I pray that the student who was shot today at Price Middle School in southwest Atlanta recovers quickly and can return home to family and friends. A suspect has been taken into custody.”
“I would also like the students, faculty and families of the Price Middle School community to know that they have the full support of the City of Atlanta as they heal from today’s terrible incident,” he added. “The city’s Employee Assistance Program counselors are already at the school providing guidance for students, faculty and family members.”
