Lerone Bennett III, prominent Atlanta-area attorney, has died.

Bennett III received a B.A., in Political Science from the prestigious Morehouse College in 1982 and earned his JD from Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University. Lerone Bennett III, like his father, was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

Bennett’s mother, Gloria Cecelia Sylvester Bennett, was a journalist, and a revolutionary civic leader who was the founding co-chairperson of Chicago Focus, a multiethnic activist group of women against racism. Mrs. Bennett also founded the Tolton Advisory Board of the Catholic Theological Union (CTU), a progressive ministry program.
