Kanye West’s listening party in Moran, Wyoming has caused a backlash. Following the ye album release party at Diamond Cross Ranch, the owners of the facility has implemented a ban on rappers, according to The Blast.
The owners of the ranch said that Kanye was initially suppose to be finished with the listening party at 10 p.m., but the party did not end until after midnight. Also, the neighbors complained about the loud music.
Tefton County has a noise ordinance which states that music should be kept under 80 decibels after 10 p.m. Kanye reportedly produced music up to 120 decibels.
As a result, the owner said there will be “no more rappers” at the ranch and that only “good music” will be allowed.
Wyoming is a state that is not used to Black culture or Black people. According to the Census, there are only about 4,200 Black people in the entire state. It’s a state that was called one of the worse places for Blacks to live by the Huffington Post.
In a strange twist, the incident goes against Kanye’s belief that racism can be defeated by strictly trying to reason with racists. While slavery was not a choice, racism is definitely a decision. And by banning all rappers, the owners of the Diamond Cross Ranch have shown Kanye that money and fame will not erase the disregard that some have when it comes to Black people.
