Steve Harvey recently received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and rolling out met with his eldest daughters, Brandi and Karli Harvey, for a quick interview.

Brandi– is the executive director for The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation

Karli– is the creative director for Steve Harvey Products and The Steve Harvey Women’s Collection

Your father, Steve Harvey, was honored recently with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, how do you feel?

Brandi: We are very proud of our father! As his oldest children, we have seen his rise. We fully understand that it was not easy and it came with many sacrifices, but seeing his accomplishments is amazing. He is a shining example as to what hard work looks like and how it can pay off if you stick to the course.

What are a few of the most memorable moments you remember during his rise to fame?

Brandi: We remember going to the comedy clubs as little girls after school. We saw his drive and dedication as girls and that memory has been ingrained in us.

Karli: I remember riding in the car, going to first grade every morning our dad played, “Bad” by Michael Jackson. He would say to us, “One day your father is going to be a big star.”

How do you two stay grounded having a famous father?

Brandi: We have a great mother, named Marcia. She was the glue that held it together. She always taught us and our brother, Steve Jr., that we were meant to be leaders and serve others. That meant we spent much of our time as children and young people involved in volunteerism and service. Our mother would always say, “You are here to serve the needs of God’s people.” We are very blessed and we do not take that for granted.

What are a few life lessons your father taught you?

Karli: Our father has taught us so much by telling us but also by watching his actions. He definitely taught us that as women, we are the prize! He showed us how a man should take care of his family by providing for them and protecting them at all cost. You have got to put the work in if you want to see results. And most important, that you do what you say you are going to do!
