Famed comedian Dave Chappelle made an unexpected appearance at a “Hip Hop for Tots” event at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, N.Y., this week. The show featured Reef the Lost Cauze, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Blaq Poet and several others. According to HipHopDX, Reef didn’t realize Chappelle was in the building until one of his friends pointed the star out to him.
“I’m standing by the bar and my boy goes, ‘Yo did you see Dave Chappelle just standing here watching the show?'” Reef said. “I’m like, ‘What? Gtfoh.’ I dart out to the hallway just in time to see him going into the other room where the comedy show is. He goes on stage and destroys, off the top, for damn near an hour. And he asked me for a cig on stage. I handed it to him and he said, ‘N—a … a Newport 100?? That’s the blackest s— I’ve seen in my life.’ Then he came outside and takes pics and is the coolest dude ever.”
Reef also posted on Instagram about the unexpected meeting.
“Met an idol and icon tonight!” his Instagam post says. “Incredible set, unrehearsed and unexpected. And he asked me for a cig on stage, I handed it to him and he said ‘N—a … a newport 100?? That’s the blackest s— I’ve seen in my LIFE!’ LOL amazing night. Thank you Mr. Chappelle.”
