Last year in Philadelphia, Jay Z curated the “Made In America Festival.” The event was filmed by Ron Howard and now the Made In America documentary will premiere on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET/PT Oct. 11 and will make a Sept. 7 debut at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Performances and interviews include appearances by Pearl Jam, Kanye West, Janelle Monae and a special performance by Run-DMC, who have not been on stage together in 11 years. The two-day fest was held on Labor Day Weekend 2012. Headlined by Jay Z and sponsored by Budweiser it also showcased Odd Future, Santigold, Gary Clark Jr., D’Angelo, Dirty Projectors, The Hives, Jill Scott, Miike Snow, Passion Pit and Rita Ora.
“As soon as we saw this film we knew it was a perfect fit for Showtime,” David Nevins, Showtime’s entertainment president, said in a statement. ” … and Jay Z have crafted an inspirational portrayal of American resilience, drive and creativity, interwoven with an incredible showcase of musical talent.”
I love Jay Z’s ability to shed light on other artists. He took a festival that many attend and turned it into an opportunity to highlight talent. What are your thoughts on his documentary? –Joi Pearson @JoiAPearson
