Stars: James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson, Vincent Cassel, Danny Sapani

Not only is Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle the mastermind behind the heartrending Slumdog Millionaire and the heart-stopping Trainspotting, he is also the creative genius who directed the electrifying opening of the 2012 Olympic Games. So the man knows a thing or two about how to entertain an audience. His latest thriller features an art auctioneer (James MCAvoy) who falls in with a group of criminals. When a piece of art goes missing, the hapless auctioneer is forced to see a hypnotherapist (Rosario Dawson), in hopes of jogging his foggy memory. The good doctor tells him that “5 percent of the population can be described as highly suggestible” and when he asks her what she can make them do, she responds, “anything,” you want to scream, “run.” Keep your thinking cap on for this one. –p.d. lee
