Jay-Z owes a lot to Big Daddy Kane. Not only the cooler-than-thou persona and gift for witty wordplay, but Jay was briefly Kane’s hypeman in the early 1990s. In a recent interview with Complex, the King Asiatic Nobody’s Equal shared his enthusiasm for Jay’s wildly successful career as an artist and as a businessman.
“I’m happy for him,” Kane told Complex. “I’ve always thought that dude was a good rapper and always wanted to see him achieve the best and he has.”
Jay tapped Kane to open the Brooklyn Nets’ Barclays Center last fall, in a nod to both his own roots and as a special moment for the borough that birthed both legendary rappers. Brooklyn’s hip-hop history is undeniable.
