Clive Davis on Whitney Houston: 'We're Not Going to Make Another Record'

Whitney Houston has, once again, been grabbing headlines for her long-term battle with drug addiction. And although many have weighed in on her addiction, her longtime friend and mentor, Clive Davis, has remained relatively mum on the issue. But now Davis is opening up about Houston’s battle with drug addiction and explaining why fans won’t hear any new music until she’s clean.

According to VIBE, while sitting down for an interview at Los Angeles’ KOST 103.5 morning show, Davis was asked about Houston’s current condition, prompting the music mogul to to confirm that the Grammy-winning singer is trying to recover from her drug and alcohol addiction as well as an addiction to cigarettes.

“Whitney has admitted that she’s had to conquer a drug addiction. That takes all of her energy. She also has had a very difficult time giving up cigarettes,” explained Davis. “In comparison, it sounds slight. But if you do have a cigarette problem in this instance, you can’t give it up. It is taking all of her energy.

Davis also commented on a much-awaited follow-up to Houston’s 2009 comeback album, I Look To You, and explained that until Houston’s voice, which has noticeably declined over the years, returns to form, he won’t work with her on a follow-up album.

“I know that she’s committed to do it. I know that she loves music,” said Davis. “Right now she’s dealing with that situation and we’re not going to make another record or an album until that golden voice is there and is fully capable to knock everyone out.”

Hopefully, Houston can finally beat her addictions and recapture her musical magic with Davis.
