Lauryn Hill Sued for Being a Diva?

Lauryn Hill has been deemed a difficult collaborator by more than a few artists over the years, including former Fugees member Wyclef Jean. But now the singer’s alleged diva-like behavior seems to be catching up with her as one of her former band members has filed suit against Hill for more than $20,000.

According to TMZ, guitar player Jay Gore claims that Hill stiffed him out of thousands of dollars after performing with her on her 2007 European tour and is seeking thousands in compensation.

Gore also claims that Hill was verbally abusive to her band members, saying that she “exhibited the type of behavior for which she had gained public notoriety, which contributed to a hostile work environment.”

According to Gore, the Miseducation singer would chastise the bandmates after each show, belittling them one by one.

“After shows, Hill would demand that the musicians and road support personnel attend meetings where she would engage in a person-by-person critique and berating,” said Gore. “At one point, Hill made a statement in front of the tour personnel to the effect that ‘I can’t believe I am paying you fools, you should be paying me.’ ”

Gore’s lawyer, Nicholas Andrea, explained that he hopes the guitar player’s lawsuit will provide a much-needed voice for the other musicians who’ve suffered abuse from Hill.

“We believe there are other musicians who have been mistreated by Ms. Hill in a similar manner who are reluctant to stand up for their rights and this lawsuit gives them a voice as well,” said Andrea.
