Lil Wayne is riding high on the charts with his latest hit single “How To Love,” but the rapper is also sitting high atop a stack of legal issues. And according to reports, Wayne is now being sued by another emcee who claims that the rapper stole the beat used in “How To Love” from him.
According to TMZ, rapper Rich Rick filed a lawsuit last week in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claiming that, between 2006 and 2009, he purchased a number of master recordings from hip-hop producers Drummer Boyz, including the acoustic-driven beat to “How To Love.”
Rick alleges that in November 2010, the Drummer Boyz went back on their deal with him and offered the same beat to Lil Wayne, who purchased it in exchange for a 35 percent royalty agreement.
Rick is now suing Wayne, Drummer Boyz and others for breach of contract and fraud and targeting the Drummer Boyz’s profits from the song plus 10 percent interest.
Rick’s lawsuit is the latest in a long list of legal issues for Wayne. Over the past two years, the Young Money general has been sued by producers Bangladesh, Jim Jonsin and Deezle, all of whom have claimed that Wayne and Cash Money Records have failed to pay them for their production work on hit songs like “Lollipop” (Jonsin and Deezle), “A Milli” and “6 Foot 7 Foot” (Both Bangladesh productions).
Considering Wayne’s track record when it comes to making payments, the Drummer Boyz may soon be joining Rick in suing the “How To Love” rapper. –nicholas robinson
